Systemic Psychotherapy

I'm a Systemic Psychotherapist / Marriage and Family Therapist and as such my primary aim is to treat the systemic context instead of regarding my client as the problem. What I mean by this is that I guide my clients to shift their focus from the isolated behaviors that they bring to therapy and look at how their environments maintain and perpetuate these. We look at the multiple layers in their environment but focus primarily on the circular nature of problems with their attempted solutions as well as the social coalitions in a person’s life that influences these.

I have chosen this field because I deeply believe that interpersonal relationships on all levels have a tremendous impact on the person we are, from birth on to adulthood. Often at various stages of the life cycle, we might get stuck in the web of relationships that surround us and it proves to be helpful to untangle these relationship webs to get a clearer understanding of the best solution to our problems.

The therapeutic field has centralized my life for over 10 years. My career began in the US, first as an immigrant trying to assimilate and adhere to the American way of life through learning the language, and than by attending university in New York. Once this was accomplished, I decided to pack up and give a chance to the West Coast so I moved to California to complete my Masters in Family Therapy.  While in the field, I went on to hold various roles mostly in outpatient settings working with children, adolescents, and adults. It was rather important to me to gain experience in various fields within mental health as I wanted to lay a strong foundation for my career. After practicing in California, I decided to mix things up a bit and relocated to the United Kingdom to further enrich my therapeutic skills, holding positions within the NHS. This is where I have found my true passion while working as a Clinical Specialist with children diagnosed with moderate to severe disabilities including Learning Disability, Autism, Down's syndrome, and Hyperkinetic Disorder. In this position, I have helped parents to understand their child's behavior in the context of the their condition and worked collaboratively with them as well as other entities involved in the child’s life to reduce some difficult behaviors and to help the child feel accepted and understood.

As a Therapist, I consider myself as an eclectic and innovative thinker, wherein my focus is client-centered versus an approach that focuses on therapeutic orientation. I like to get to know my clients and adjust my style to the needs of the client and the presenting problem.

I prefer working with my clients face to face, which can include a meeting in person or via skype. The first session is an assesment session with a duration of 90 minutes with a target in gathering historical and familial client information. Following, all subsequent sessions will be conducted for 50 minutes.

In regards to the fees for my services, prices can be discussed upon first contact.
